SEASON OF THE WITCH

Nicolas Cage has made some awful movies in the last couple of years.Drive Angry, The Sorcerer's Apprentice,Kick Ass,Bad Lieutenant,Knowing and Bangkok Dangerous were all horrendous movies. With the exception of Kick Ass,all the others failed at the box office.Infact, his last entertaining and successful movie was National Treasure 2 and that was back in 2007.Season of the Witch, unfortunately is another disappointing Nicolas Cage movie. But it is definitely better than the flicks i have mentioned above. The movie suffered from 2-3 delays before finally coming out.It was to release in March 2010,but it was delayed due to shooting of extra scenes. It was then supposed to open in October 2010 in US and Uk,but again at the last moment it was moved to January 2011.It finally came out on 7th January 2011.As i expected, the movie did not do that well at the box office. However ,it was able to make a slight profit.Made at a budget of $ 40 million,it earned $ 85 million at worldwide box office.

As for the story,it is a mishmash of period action/adventure and supernatural horror. The movie is set in 14th Century.Behmen(Cage) and Felson(Ron Perlman a.k.a Hellboy) are Teutonic Knights who fight in a series of crusades during the 1330's.They desert the army after being falsely misled to murder helpless women and children. Both arrive in Marburg,Styria,a place stricken with an unknown plague. The people their attribute this plague to a young witch. The Cardinal of the place(Christopher Lee),who himself is infected with the plague, requests the knights to escort the alleged witch to a monastary where a group of monks would determine if the girl really is a witch or not.If she is found guilty then the monks know a ritual that could get rid of the girls powers and at the same time stop the palgue. The knights agree to take the girl on the condition that she will be given a fair trial and that all the charges against them(knights) should be dropped. The Cardinal agrees. On their journey, they are accompanied by Debelzeg,a priest,Eckhart, the Cardinal's best knight,Kay an altar boy who wants to become a knight like his deceased father and Hagamar,a swindler who also serves as their guide. On their journey they face many trials and tribulations.During the journey it also becomes apparent that the girl is not a witch but is being possessed by a mysterious demon.Eckhart is killed during the journey. When they finally reach the monastary, they find the mnks dead and it is revealed that the demon wanted them to bring the girl to the monastary,so that he could destroy the book of Solomon, which contains the way of getting rid of the demon permanently.A fight ensues between the demon and our heroes.Behmen,Felson,Debelzeq and Hagamar are all killed. But they manage to kill the demon also.Only Kay.the altar boy and the girl survive. After burying the two knights, both of them head back for Mayburg.

I found the movie to be better than i was expecting it to be.Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman as two heroes are quite good. But the rest of the cast disappoints. They are good in patches only. Most of the time they seem to over act a bit.The story is actually better than it feels on paper.I just wish the screenplay and dialogues could have been better.Special effects are good though. But if you are looking a great action/adventure movie, this is not it.Its an above average movie and nothing more. But if you are die hard Nicolas Cage fan, then you might enjoy this one.

I just hope Nic Cage comes up with a decent watchable movie in the future.Nic fans should keep their fingers crossed.

My rating for the movie: 4/10.

GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS

A retired master car thief must come back to the industry and steal 50 cars with his crew n one night to save his brother's life. Kip Raines (Giovanni Ribisi) is a cocky young car thief working with a crew to steal 50cars for a very bad man whose nickname is "The Carpenter." Being young and cocky, Kip messes up, so it's up to his big brother, Randall "Memphis" Raines (Nicolas Cage), to come out of car thief retirement and save him. With a cast that includes Robert Duvall, Angelina Jolie, Delroy Lindo, Cage, and Ribisi, it would be easy to say this story wastes all their talents--which it does, but that's not the point. This is a Jerry Bruckheimer film. A good story and complex characters would only get in the way of the action scenes and slow the movie down. No, Gone in 60Seconds (based on the cult 1974 film of the same name) is not about the stars as much as it's about cars. Fast cars, Rare cars, Wrecked cars, All cars. Too bad director Dominic Sena (Kalifornia) doesn't come across as more of a gearhead; he seems less interested in fast cars than fast cuts. But is this movie fun? Absolutely, and it's fun because it's so stupid. With pointless car chases and hackneyed dialogue in one of the most predictable plots of the year, Gone in 60Seconds is a nice movie to watch a nice time pass and have fun watching the world chasing a car and then even they do not succeed. If Dominic Sena's turbo-charged action-thriller Gone In 60 Seconds was a car, it would probably be a second-hand souped-up GTI - lots of noisy power behind that sleek and sexy frame, yet alarmingly unreliable and altogether a rather soulless ride. Ridiculously expensive too.

Gone In 60 Seconds is a remarkable film for many reasons. Not only does director Sena achieve the impossible, and make the various car chases look pedestrian, but he test drives Scott Rosenberg's slight screenplay for almost two hours and tells us virtually nothing about the characters.
Cage whispers all of his lines which - and it's a small relief - sometimes get drowned out by the roaring of engines, and Jolie perfects her pout. Rising star Ribisi is stuck in one-dimensional supporting character hell along with Duvall, Patton with only Vinnie Jones making any impact as the mute hard man who takes personal offence (and a petrol bomb) to anyone who dares to disrespect his buddies.

TRANSFORMERS PART 1 & 2

First part of transformers movie came in 2007. The main cast included SHIA LA BEOUF (Sam witwiky) and MEGAN FOX (Mikela Banes). The movie started off with a fight of huge robots  over a key to ultimate power in which the good ones lead by OPTIMUS PRIME and the bad ones lead by MEGATRON. The energy source was known to be somewhere on planet earth and the boy sam was its key. Thus optimus prime approaches sam and ensures its security from megatrons. Sam was surprised by seeing robots transforming into cars and trucks thus the story proceeds intrestingly and Mikela bans becomes sam's girlfriend. In the quest of saving Sam Optimus Prime gives away his life and sam is now left with some of the good ones to help him.

The second part THE REVENGE OF THE FALLEN was rather a good sequel with the same leading cast, this time sam trying to live a normal life leaving the autobots behind, but then some symbols fill ups his mind and he is once again dragged into the transformers robo war and targeted by the decepticons. In the process of finding the energy source sam also comes across a power that can bring back dead optimus prime to power again.

The TRANSFORMERS (2007) was an amazing film which was throughly enjoyed by audience of all age groups. MEGAN FOX though had only one quality which is being HOT does not acted too well in the movie ,whereas SHIA's acting was outstanding. The second part in my opinion was just as good as the first part but was open handedly taken by the people.

The 3rd sequel of the movie is due this year and people have high expectations from it.lets hope our best that this part turns out to be the best of the three. FINGERS CROSSED ...

Water For Elephants

The background of the movie is that A veterinary student abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet. Films about traveling circuses, and the often daring and dodgy people who worked in them, used to be relatively commonplace in American movies and it could be that the novelty of seeing such a troupe, traveling from one town to another on a train with dozens of performers, workers and lots of animals in tow, might be enough to captivate a fair share of people today, just as Gruen's 2006 novel did.

Robert Pattinson was actually quite good. This was a surprise to me, since I didn't really think he was anything special in any of the Twilight movies or "Remember Me". He looked very appropriate for the time the movie was set in, and even though I love Emile Hirsch (who auditioned for Jacob too) I'm confident that Robert was the best choice there was for this role, it was perfect for him. Hal Holbrook was also very fitting for the role of older Jacob. The two actors really made me believe that they were the same person in different stages of his life.
Reese Witherspoon was okay. She looked beautiful, was charming and cute but it felt like something was missing - however, I can't think of any other actress I would have liked better in the role, so I came to the conclusion that it was probably the character Marlena that was a little bland, not Reese.

Furthermore, the central dilemma—that of a beautiful woman caught between her debt to the circus impresario who plucked her from a dismal existence to make her a circus star as well as his wife and her mounting passion for a handsome young man who escapes a personal tragedy by joining the company—may be well-worn but can always work in the right hands, and Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz are all more than up to the task.

In my opinion the movie is amazing and I recommend every one to go and watch this movie =)

THE EXPENDABLES

The Expendables is a 2010 action movie directed by Sylvester Stallone. The movie features Sylvester Stallone,Jet Li,Jason Statham,Dolph Lundgren,Steve Austin,Randy Couture,Eric Roberts and Mickey Rourke in main roles.Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis make cameo appearances.

The movie is a nostalgic tribute to the action movies of the 80's when these sort of films were all the rage. The movie features the top action stars of that era. There is not much of a plot in the movie.Barney Ross(Stallone) is the leader of a group of elite mercenaries, who are sent on a mission to overthrow a Latin American dictator. The man who sends them on the mission is a mysterious man who calls himself Mr Church (Bruce Willis).Church first offers the job to Barney's rival Trent(Arnold),but he turn's down the offer. The rest of the movie then follows Barney and his men's efforts in overthrowing the dictator and as expected they succeed in the end. They also manage to kill the American James Munroe (Eric Roberts) who is supplying arms

and ammunition to the dictator. The movie ends on a happy note.

As i mentioned earlier that the movie does not have much of a plot.It is just an excuse for gunfights and fist fights every 5 minutes in the movie. But it is fun to watch all these action stars in one movie. The movie as whole is entertaining as well.I mean it doesn't give you anything you haven't seen before but it makes for a good entertainer. For anyone growing up in the mid to late 80's,like myself, would feel a tinge of nostalgia while watching this movie. That is the other reason i enjoyed this movie. The acting is not bad either. But the real stars of the movie are the action scenes.Almost all the action movies these days rely heavily on CGI effects, which could at times give you the feeling of watching a computer game rather than watching a movie. It's unsettling.

The movie was a big box office hit, grossing over $275 million worldwide. It only cost $80 million to make.A sequel is already in the works and Lionsgate Studio, recently announcedd that the sequel would come out on 17 August 2012.

I would rate it 6/10.
