Titanic

Titanic, a movie that needs no introduction, everyone (be it a movie freak or not) knows about this movie. How great it was, in fact how great it STILL IS. One of the best told love stories ever, on the maiden, disasterous voyage of the grandest ship of the world, Titanic of the White Star Line. This movie was literally a revolution in the cinema worldwide, that broke all records, showed excellent hard work, its tear-jerking the crowds, brilliant direction which kept on pushing the boundaries of the effects back then. Yes, Titanic is all that, that a 'classic' needs to be a classic and be remembered by movie-lovers all around! Also listed as the 'most favourited movie of all time'.

Titanic is a movie venture of the much acclaimed and superb director, James Cameron who has directed movies such as Terminator, T2, Aliens and True Lies. James Cameron had the idea to do a movie about the ship in 1990's but however scrapped the project and did True Lies instead, later he did some research on the ship and wrote the script for it. He was done on the love story he wanted but what he really focussed on was the actual ship, its architecture, design, how it sank and all the most minor of details. He immediately got a production house, his long time partners 20th Century Fox and associated with Paramount Pictures for the movie and started the pre-production activities.

By 1995, he himself used the MiR-II (the one shown in the movie) to go under sea and witness the Titanic on the sea bed and how were the rooms placed (also a little help he got from White Star Line).

Being done with that, he hand picked his crew, also some of his old collaboraters and focussed fully on the project. He finally completed the script and started on the modelling, architecture and production of the sets, studios and the ship that were to be shown (he literally made like most of the ship, like the real one..WOWW)! And thats what it made the movie the most expensive of its time, approx. $200 Million. He wanted this movie to be Grand, "Its like my baby", he said.

THE CAST:

Being done with the pre-production, Cameron immediately started to get his cast, he wanted such a cast to fill his characters completely.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jack Dawson, a young man who wins a 3rd-Class passenger ticket in lucky hand in poker with his best pal, Fabrizio. He wanted to go to America, he was poor but lived his life to the fullest, he knew his limitations. He is an artist, a rather good one. His life changes when he encounters a young, beautiful 1st-Class female passenger and falls in love with her.

The role brought great fame to DiCaprio, boosted his career to the highest, making it a signature movie for him. Girls all over the world after the release went instantly crazy for him, starting up a 'Leo-Mania' by mid '98 which lasts long enough. The movie highlighted his career and he showed some really good acting skills, it was a shame he didn't get an Oscar nomination for this. Nevertheless, he was amazing and the role of Jack is and will be remembered and loved.

The divine beauty, the elegant and the very very lovely Kate Winslet plays the 1st-Class passenger, 17 year old, Philidelphia based Rose DeWitt Buckater. A rich, a little spoiled, irritated and not to forget to mention a very trapped and helpless girl who feels has no way out of her misery when she is forced to be married to a rich, business tycoon by her mother as they have lost all their money and her marriage would ensure their survival and they are going back to America to get married when on the ship she meets Jack Dawson and gets to know him well and fall in deep love with him, allowing herself to abondon all the riches, perks and her mother and later all the while trying to be with him and to live.

The role very fortunately went to Kate Winslet which launched her as an A-list star, brilliant actress and a divine beauty with extra-ordinary poise. When Winslet heard about the film and th role, she decided to just grab it, she used to call Cameron from London trying to get him to give her the role. "I am your Rose, why dont you understand!!" , she used to say to him. She used to write him letters from London to his office trying to persuade to giver her the role every week almost, singing 'Your Rose' at the end always. Finally after months, he got her to audition and when auditioned and screen-tested (with Leo) he loved her from that minute. Kate said, "If u dont cast me, fine but take Leo, he is awesome". When casted as Rose, the filming began and it was intense, Winslet says. She claims it to be the hardest role she has ever played but again, it was so darn well-served. During all the water scenes, Winslet had a copy of that dress with the number of 20 and boy, did she get freakin injured on the sets. Almost drowned, chipped her arms, had pneumonia, the worslt flu, blood clots on her arms and necks, twisting her feet and all sorts of awful things. She said that she thought by the time the filming would finish, the entire cast would be in an assylum. But after the release, the reception of her character was just amazing, calling it a "brilliant one''. Her potrayl of Rose was applauded and her grace, poise, style, elegance was loved much. She received nominations for Oscars, Golden Globe and all high profile awards, winning the Empire one. Her role was just AWESOME and I believe no one else than Kate would have nailed it. Job well done!

Billy Zane starred as Calendon Hockley, a rich, steel-business tycoon who is very proud of his money and loves Rose from his full heart, willing to get her anything, all the ricjes and luxuries.

Francis Fisher stars as Ruth Buckater, the mother of Rose, who is determined to get her daughter married to Cal, as her husband left them no money and for their survival gets her hooked to Cal and plays the same rich lady to the world, worried all inside as well.

Gloria Staurt plays the old Rose, who is telling her story to the crew of Keldysh, MiR-II. She tells her experience on the sinking of the ship and also her love story.

Gloria Staurt was the oldest person to be nominated for an Oscar at the age of 86, she played the role of a 101 year old and found it a very displeasing experience. Her acting was well received, becoming one of her best performances and sole Oscar nomination.

THE STORY:

1997, Keldysh expecdition goes intio the Atlantic ocean to search the half portion of Titanic lying for the Heart Of The Ocean, a very rare diamond necklace that went into the sea in 1912, the night the Titanic sank, April 14th 1912. They dont find the necklace but they do find a drawing of a woman wearing the necklace. they get it and put it on the news when a 101 year old woman claims to be the woman wearing that necklace. They fly her to their ship with her grand daughter when she starts narrating/ telling her 84 year old tale of the voyage of Titanic when she was being taken back to America to be forcefully married to a man for his money by her mother. When on the ship, she feels she has no way out, she doesnt want a miserable life for her with ni happiness, so she attempts to kill herself, when she prepares to jump from the ship, Jack Dawson comes to her rescue.

He talks her out of it. Cal is told a lie by Rose that she accidently fell and he saved her and as a token of his appreciation, he invites Jack to a 1st-Class dinner with their group and he accepts. The next day, Rose meets Jack to thank him and to explain her situation. The 2 talk for an entire day and Jack instantly likes her. The 2 then meet for dinner with the entire group, Cal and Ruth immediately tell Jack's reality to the group (sort of demoralizing him) but he still is a sport!

After the dinner, the 2 have an amazing night together when Jack takes Rose to the 3rd-Class dinner and party where the 2 are spied on by Cal's assistant. The next day, Rose is restricted from meeting Jack at all, however Jack gets a moment with her and explains his feelings to her and how he adores her and loves her. Rose takes a moment and thinks about it and risks it all and gets on with Jack, then comes one of the most famous and loved scenes of the entire cinema and the movie, The Flying Scene! It has become one of the most iconic scenes and moments of all time, in entire cinematic history (my personal fav).

Rose gets to Jack and he tells her to be quiet and takes her hand, takes her to the railing and then......

.....They Fly! :) :')

While singing 'Come Josephine in my flying machine' and the 2 kiss (BEST KISS EVER).

However, Rose asks him to draw a sketch of her, wearing the Heart Of The Ocean, that Cal gave her....as he did, the 2 head off but very unfortunately, the ship hits the ice berg. The ship hits and when water floods in, there is instant chaos with not enough boats for 2220 souls that are on board, during all that Jack is taken by the master of arms on the basis of a false robbery.

As Rose's mother and Cal reach the top to get in the boats, Rose realizes the set up and leaves them both, jeopardizing her situation of getting in a life boat, she rescues Jack but the 2 struggle, along with many many other 3rd-Class passengers on escaping the brutal death. The 2 succeed but as inly women and children are allowed on the boats, Jack is left on the ship, Rose jumps off the boat (Truly Romantic, also a great scene of the movie). Cal goes off shooting the 2, so they go in the last deck of the ship with water reaching up to them very fast, the 2 have a very narrow escape but manage to get out but by then all the boats are gone.

Jack and Rose along with hundreds of others struggle on the amssive ship with chilling water and no more boats to escape.

With absolute no escape, the 2 go to the top of the ship (the ship moves up to a vertical position, of course and I hope you have seen it).

As we know how it got split into two, and the upper part sank last, 1500 people went into the water, Jack and Rose included. Jack finds a kind of a....floating object?! I dont know, he just finds something to hold on to but its too light for the both so he lets Rose on that. And the water was freezing, so freezing that the people turned blue and had ice in their hair.
Rose feels if she will die and Jack forbids her to think so, he tells her how much he loved her, how he cherished the past 3 days and how she has to move on and live (sniff* -tear-).

Very sadly and unfortunately Jack dies, there ere 15 boats floating near by but only 1 came back, Rose sees it and keeps Jack's promise to live, she bids farewell to him and gives him to the sea, She is saved from the water along with 5 others. Out of 1500, 6 survived, 6!!

As the Old Rose finishes the story, the crew returns to the rooms, she left the impression that Cal had taken the necklace with him, but she had it, Cal had put it in the coat he gave her to wear (OOPS! Bad goes for Cal- Deserving! Hah!) Anyways, she throws the necklace into the sea, where it belongs. She returns to her room and sleeps and in her dreams reunites with Jack, on the Titanic, along with all the passengers, celebrating their love!

It was one of the greatest scenes to witness!

-The entire movie was EPIC, loved every bit, every scene, every sentence!

RESPONSE:

Prior to the release of the movie, it was considered to be a box-office disaster (specially when its the most expensive movie to be made!) So when the movie had its premiere in early October, good feedback started to come in and showed a little light of hope and when the movie releaed internationally in December 1997, the world went crazy, 100% cinema attendence was seen which is rare in Christmas weekends but it did happen and then suddenly..it was TITANIC TITANIC TITANIC everywhere! People started to get the movie's poster, which sold dramatically as if it was a duty, people started to visit the cinemas over and over to watch the 'greatest movie'. In some theatres, the movie ran for more than a year, grossing over $1 Billion worlwide, the highest grossing mvie (for 12 years till Cameron's next venture, Avatar..but for me Avatar wasnt even close to the greatness of Titanic, I mean it was nice and all but nothing like TITANIC).

Critics began calling it the best movie of the year, and it proved to be, then the movie of the decade. James Cameron and the entire team was applauded and cherished.

The picture down there became so iconic and sold thousands of posters and pictures.

Kate & Leo do look ravishing here, they always do! ^_^

Although an explicit scene, but the drawing scene, some calling it one of the highlights of the movie was greatly appreciated, Kate looked 'Au Naturel' the drawing was really made by Cameron himself. It sold recently for $16,000 in an auction, Lucky Guy!

AWARDS & OSCAR BUZZ:

Soon after its release, was the awards season and Titanic began to win it all, after sweeping the major Golden Globes and SAGs, it won awards all over the globe, from America to Japan, to Australia, literally all over!

At the Oscars, titanic was the most nominated movie ever, 14 nominations, winning 11 of the, again the highest wins of all times.

It won James Cameron 3 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director when he gave a terrific and memerable speech.

Kate Winslet was nominated for Best Actress, lost to Helen Hunt (darn her) but Kate looked G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S in the green, Alexander McQueen dress with beautuful locks and her beautiful signature red lipstick!

After winning Best Picture Oscar, producers and Winslet.

The music director who did an amazing amazing job in the movie won 2 Oscars, for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for 'My Heart Will Go On'. James Horner won BIG that night!

The song was a sensation, even today called as best romantic song and most requested on Valentine's Day. Originally, the director had no plans of adding an original song but James Horner wrote it secretly and recorded a demo with Celine Dion, after hearing it, he approved and he better have, it was sooo wonderful, it dominated the charts worlwide, where it was on #1 for 14 weeks.

The movie was amazing, the music was amazing, the acting was flawless, the direction was perfect, every minor detail was taken care of and the story stood on its own,

Titanic certainly is THE BEST!

You can watch it over and over again, seriously. If you ahvent seen it, God Forbid, then slap yourself thrice hard and get it and watch it.

Just LOVE IT!

My Ratings: 11/10.*

chasing cars - grey's anatomy soundtrack

CHATUR SINGH TWO STAR

This movie has a very intresting cast mainly including SANJAY DUT as CHATUR SINGH TWO STAR , AMISHA PATEL, ANUPAM KHER and SHAKTI KAPOOR. By the cast included it seemed a very intresting and a funny movie as SANJAY DUTT was to be seen after a long time in a comic role after his highly acclaimed movie series “MUNNA BHAI”.By  its trailers movie seemed sort of copy of Hollywood Blockbuster ‘PINK PANTHER”. Amisha patel  made her  entry into bollywood again with this movie and no wonder she was stunningly hot.

Despite the star cast and crew the story was not upto the mark. though SANJAY DUTT tried his best to give in some punch lines but what can an actor do when he does not have particular dialogues on which audience could laugh out loud. AMISHA PATEL was pathetic in her acting and seemed she has just been show cased with revealing cloths just to give some entertainment to the audience though that were the only parts in the movie people were looking forward to..LOL

The story was about a cop SANJAY DUTT he thought himself one of the best detectives in the world and in this illusion did stupid things and made a fool out of himself even his own department thought very low and foolish of him and assigned him to the cases which no officer was willing to take amongst all this he was assigned on a case to provide security to a minister, and AMISHA PATEL who played role of minister’s secretary was trapped into circumstances which led to murder of the minister and CHATUR SINGH was bent upon to find the culprit and did numerous stupidity things.

On the whole movie is a flop according to me because it does not have a good story nor dialogues and I was just killing time watching this movie and got bored after a while because as I thought the movie would be hilarious it turned out to be boring where I was seeking for a scene to laugh.

I would rate this movie 4.5-10…

The Help

The movie is richly flavored by the work of a sprawling cast that puts the exceptional Viola Davis and Emma Stone at the film's impassioned center, with the scene-stealing tang of Octavia Spencer and the sweet-tart of Jessica Chastain thankfully never far away.

Since we generally prefer not to be reminded of the darker chapters of our history, it's a risky business taking us back — even with a fictional tale — to Jackson, Miss., at a time when African Americans were still very much the serving class. As much a part of white family life as weekly bridge clubs and church on Sunday, black maids were often loved, more often exploited and nearly always taken for granted. The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Medgar Evers were out there stirring things up in that season of fear, but in Jackson kitchens, things were being kept at a simmer.

Against that backdrop, "The Help" takes us inside an unlikely rebellion. It all begins when new Ole Miss grad Skeeter (Stone) comes back home and tries to persuade the women who cook and clean and raise the babies to tell their stories and secrets. She has a publishing career on her mind; they have uncomfortable truths, and redemption on theirs. For both sides it becomes a test of courage and conviction told in a kind of Capra-esque style, and I mean that in the best possible way.

Kathryn Stockett's bestselling novel has given writer-director Tate Taylor a lot to chew on. Born and raised in Jackson, they are longtime friends and you can feel that connection in the care with which Taylor approaches the material, though the reverence is exactly what eventually trips him up. As a result, the movie exists within an emotionally charged landscape sometimes too starkly black and white — there is no room for ambiguity at this table.

With Taylor's deep Southern roots, he insisted on shooting the film on location, ultimately finding the retro feel he was looking for in Greenwood, Miss. Cinematographer Stephen Goldblatt, whose keen sense of the South earned him an Oscar nomination for 1991's "The Prince of Tides," makes the most of it, giving even the dirt roads and decaying frame houses a kind of gauzy beauty usually reserved for the plantation-styled manses. Production designer Mark Ricker ("Julie & Julia") matches him in kind — this is a man who knows his way around kitchens, an asset since it is in kitchens that much of the movie takes place.

While a lot of the action happens over stoves, it's the toilets that become the moral proving ground — and deliver some of the movie's funniest moments. That "The Help" can take the incendiary issue of "separate-but-equal" bathrooms and spin it into a series of side-splitting gags without losing sight of the underlying pain of discrimination, represents a kind of comedy I thought Hollywood had forgotten how to do. You know, the kind that makes us laugh while going right to the heart of the matter, and comes as a blessed relief from the vapid raunch that has become the norm.

Everyone has a secret, that may turn into an ugly scandal...
"-Gossip Girl here, your one and reliable source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite".

"Where could she be, and who am I, that's a secret I'd never tell. You know you love me. xoxo,

Gossip Girl is a teen drama series based on the book series by the same name. Narrated by the omniscient yet unseen blogger 'Gossip Girl', the series revolves around the lives of very much priviliged young adults on Manhattan's Upper-East side.

The series have taken everyone by surprise and has charmed millions of young adults itself around the globe. The show got much positive reviews from the critics and fans went Gaga over the new series. Its not just for girls, guys also happen to love it..speaking of me, my friends! Its the show that gets the OMFG from everyone and the format and story being very 'Upper East side' itself still gets to generate many to follow it and even, Like it!

Gossip Girl airs on The CW channel, has had 4 complete seasons and the 5th will start airing from September this year.

THE CAST & CHARACTERS:
I am not going to tell much about the characters or it'll spoil the show for you.

Blake Lively potarys Serena van der Woodsen, the 'it girl' of the Upper East side. Returning from Connecticut boarding school for unknow reasons unknown to her friends as well as her departure 1 year ago prior to show's beginning. This role launched Blake as a super star and really boosted her career. Blake herself being very young and high-spirited loves her role and you can often see her in all the 'Best dressed lists' all the time. Really!

Leighton Meester potrays Blair Waldrof. She is the queen-bee of the social scene of Manhattan and Constance Billard High School. She's an only child, highly spoiled after the divorce of her designer mother and homosexual father. She has set herself to achieve everything she wants and be successful and the very typical elite lady. Leighton's career sky-rocketted with Blair and is in fact considered as one of the most influential characters on TV. She is as well very stylish and hence, joins her friend Blake in the Best dressed lists everywhere.

Ed Westwick potrays Chick Bass, the Oh so wealthy, charming, dangerous Chuck Bass. Girls all over the world go crazy after him (even a few guys). With his charm, wit, money, spoilness and power he is everything he wants to be. watch the show and you'll know what CHUCK BASS really is, and you'll find hard not to like him.

Penn Badgley is Dan Humphery. He is the son of rock musician turned gallery owner, Rufus Humphery (who also has a very important role in the show). He plays the love interest of Miss. van der Woodsen. Much fun to watch!

Chace Crawford plays Nate Archibald. He is torn between Serena and Blair, with whom he has had romantic histories. He is the so-called golden boy and he very much makes his life decisions. His closest friend is Chuck Bass. Nate has a bad, bad family history which also affects him in the show.

Taylor Momsen plays Jenny Humphery, younger sister of Dan Humphery.Jenny is impressionable and quickly becomes the pawn of several characters. She's one of those who really have a mean streak. Very talented as a designer, she goes gothic by the middle of the show. Being bitchy, she does have some nice parts.

Jessica Szohr plays Vaneesa Abrams, the childhood best friend of Dan Humphery, kind of a rival to Serena, hating the Upper East life, having feelings for Dan and Nate. She also has a very bad, mean streak. Very bitchy to get what she wants, but when you watch the show..its only fair, so I dont hate her much.

There are also a number of very important characters like Lily, Serena's mother. Rufus Humphery, father of Dan and Jenny. Eric van der Woodsen, brother of Serena, half son of Rufus. Georgina Sparks, Juliet Sharp, Dorota Kishlovsky, Blair's Polish housekeeper and she is a sweet heart! Bart Bass, Chuck's billionaire father ands Lily's ex-husband.

THE RELATIONSHIPS:

In the show, almost everyone has slept with everyone (of course the opposite sex).

here it goes.

Serena & Blair: The bestest of friends, the closest of friends (by the middle of 1st season) there was a bit some rivalry in the start that remains through out. Whatever happens, the 2 always stick together and really love eachother (at least sometimes). Love seeing them together, shopping and in class and in parties.

Nate & Serena: Nate has had history with Blair and still has feeings for her while he meets Serena, whom he also likes. His heart torn between the 2. he gets together with Serena ( a very on n off relationship). However, their friendship is quite strong. They look good together.

Chuck & Blair: AAAAAAAHHH, my 3rd most fav couple on TV. They are so good together, They have kind of a very love-hate relationship mostly resulting with Love. We actually get to see the human side of Blair and Chuck (who are very very very mean through out) and since both are very mean, cruel, cold..they are perfect for eachother, with many hurdles in their relation and breaking up many time, all the deals in the relationship (THAT IS SOMETHING VERY WOW IN THE SHOW, wont tell you here) they are just magnaficento together, Even if they find different love partners for themselves.

Dan & Serena: Now these 2 have a very very very wierd, awkward relationship, these two like eachother, been together but Serena's mom, Lily and Dan's dad, Rufus marry eachother, making them step-siblings! (WOAHH! crrrreepy). Nevertheless, like everyone else, these 2 also have a very on-off relationship thing (dont all Americans do?!!) but again, they understand eachother, comfort eachother, love eachother! They look cool together.

THE SHOW:
The shows is narrated by our very own, the beloved Gossip Girl. She has her own blog and writes about the latest feed, dirt on the one's of Manhattan's Upper East side. Let them be in school, high school, college or have their own careers. She has made an entire career out of it and in return, she has fans and many followers from Manhattan. 'cause who wouldn't like to get dirt or the gossip on their friends, class mates or just anyone!

For Gossip girl, this seems right, "People will always talk so lets give them something to talk about"-Lady GaGa.

For anyone who caused a massive problem and gave fake news to Gossip Girl, she will find him and teach a good lesson, and for anyone who needs to find anyone (from the society of course), She has connections and has her ways to find the desired one.

So what does Gossip Girl has to do with our Elite class? Well, they themselves are so scandalous and controversial that...Gossip just comes on its own, Scandals are natural for them and man oh man do they enjoy it! What happens is that a 'secret' of theirs or one's get out to Gossip Girl and then published to everyone so they plan an alibi how it all happened or how to avoid it and while working on the plan to avaoid it..BAAM! Gossip Girl finds that out and then...POSTED! everyone knows now! Well, thats how it just works on the Upper East side. Rich parents, hell-lotta money, beauty (DUH..Look at Leighton, sigh* love that woman), and all they ever want...

The story of the series however revolve around the main cast at all times.

So if you want to know whats going on in the Upper East side, no need to log on to Gossip Girl, or going to Upper East side yourself, get a DVD. If you're in Karachi and in or near Sea View or D.H.A, u can get it from VIDEO RANGE on 9th commercial street, phase 4 D.H.A!

For what its worth..its a must watch, nothing serious or thoughtful just something for the youth or should I say 'young adults'. Fun, sassy, witty, can give you lessons on being mean and bitchy (if needed) or else, its just GOOD!

Just wish we had schools like their's...really would have been cool!

We know we love her and cant get enough of her.
xoxo
-Gossip Girl!

My Ratings: 7.5/10.

The Underdog Project - Summer Jam (Eric Chase Edit) (Official Video HD)

Carnage

Carnage is an upcoming black-comedy drama film written and directed by the very controversial himself, Roman Polanski, best known as the director of movies like The Pianist and The Ghost Writer.

The film is based on the very much famous and acclaimed play, God Of Carnage by French writer Yasimna Reza. The play itself has had 2 adaptations and got immense praise and won many major awards.

The film has an an amazing, A-List cast, including Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Cristoph Waltz and John C.Reilly. The cast seems pretty amazing, considering it has Kate and all of their acting seems pretty awesome (as far is shown in the trailer).

The film tells the story of 2 sets of parents (Foster, Reilly and Winslet,Waltz) who meet up to talk about a fight their children had in the school. The meeting starts off smooth but as time goes by, the meeting quickly becomes an argument in which the parents attack at each other's parenting skills and then exposing problems in their marriages.

The movie seems very humorous and I think it will be absolutely amazing to see such sophisticated actors such as Kate Winslet and Jodie Foster in comedy roles and man, oh man..all the actors are nailing it, YO! The trailer blew me away. HIGH HIGH expectations!

The movie will have its world premiere at the 68th Venice International Film Festival and will be released in Italy on 9th September 2011 and then on 16th December in the U.S. The film is set in Brooklyn, New York but was shot in Paris due to Polanski's legal inability to travel the U.S due to his sexual abuse case (GEEEEZ, *creeps*), that caught mass media attention back in the day and is still a topic of a few tabloids.

Anyways, the poster of the film (the one at the very top) was well-received for its comic element, its visible thats its written in French. It shows that all actors are very calm and happy-chappy in the start, tensed in the middle and then go bizzarly angry/crazy at the end. And thats all the movie is about, looks fantastic! The trailer was amazing and shows what the movie has to offer. Well, thats all for now and really cant wait for this one. Hope it turns out well and maybe gets in the Oscar buzz and get a few Oscar nods, perhaps for Kate (who looks very very promising in the movie)!

-A proper review will be given after the release.

Underworld: Awakening Trailer [2012] HD

Final Destination 5

The Final Destination series started out as a fairly serious horror movie built on a creative premise. Unlike just about any other horror franchise, the movie’s killer would not ever take tangible form. Instead the villain is death itself, as if death is an active force, which claims lives on schedule that must not be broken. It’s a brilliant horror premise and one the franchise has done a lot of good things with over the years, even if as it’s worn on the whole thing has gradually begun to take itself less seriously, to the point that now the deaths are generally ridiculous. As it turns out, that ridiculousness is half the fun of this horror franchise and while even that had begun to run out of gas in the previous installment, Final Destination 5 injects new life into this premise with a few fresh ideas.

First though it plods through a bunch of awkward character development. Great movies let you learn about their characters naturally, as the plot develops. This one has all the characters involved walk up and conveniently reveal everything you need to know about their personality to each other in the movie’s first five minutes. It does that to get it out of the way so we know which character’s to care about when it starts killing them, and it does that because it knows it’s not deep enough to do that same thing while they’re being killed. Nor is it particularly well acted, the cast is a mixed bag of stiffs and mawkish caricatures. None of that matters because while the script and the cast is all but useless when it comes to characters, Final Destination 5 is nearly pretty great at everything else.

It’s particularly great if you’re already familiar with this franchise, since the film is filled with all sorts of subtle and not so subtle nods to the movies that came before it. If you know why it’s significant that a truck carrying logs drives past the camera as the cast motors down the highway, then this is probably the movie for you. Actually, it’s more than just a few subtle nods, but to tell you anything more would be a spoiler. Suffice to say, if you’re familiar with this franchise, the way this movie’s constructed will blow your mind.

For everyone else it’s really all about the kills and while those are as utterly implausible as the Final Destination movies at their worst, they’re executed in a way reminiscent of Final Destination at its best. Some of them flat out don’t make any sense, but the ones that do are terrifying, cringe-worthy stuff. The first couple of Final Destination movies were so effective because they played into a lot of our most basic, day in and day out accident fears. The big deaths involved murderous household appliances, car wrecks, and exploding planes. By the third movie they got away from that and death began constructing elaborate Rube Goldberg like mechanisms to kill people, and while that was silly fun, it was never as flat out scary as those more realistic, basic fears given form. Final Destination 5 successfully splits the difference between those two possibilities while also adding in a few new wrinkles.

One of those new wrinkles, which you’ve probably seen outlined in the trailers, involves the victims’ discovery that murder may be a way to defeat death’s designs. The idea here is that if you cheat death by escaping some pre-ordained demise, then death has a quota to fill and will come for you anyway. Except, what if you murder someone and give death a cold body to fill your slot in that quota? Then you get to live out whatever time was left on that person’s life. It’s a premise so good that the only real problem here is that the movie doesn’t do more with it. Final Destination 6? I can’t believe I’m saying this after sitting through that awful fourth film a couple of years ago, but I’m all for it.

For existing fans of the Final Destination franchise, this movie is an absolute must see. For everyone else expect a lot of gore, a few effectively fun kill scenes, and a lot of confusion while everyone around you shouts in audible surprise at what’s happening on screen. This film wouldn’t deserve the three and a half stars I’m giving it as a stand-alone movie, but it’s not a stand-alone film. Final Destination 5 is the culmination of ten years of crazy kills and scared teenagers in the making. If you’ve seen any of the other Final Destination movies, don’t miss this one.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

-What if you could wipe out a part of your memory that you dont want or of a bad relationship or people you dont want in your life anymore?

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is a 2004 romantic fanatsy movie about an estranged couple who have eachother erased from their memories. Directed by Michel Gondry, scripted by Charlie Kaufman. Starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kristen Dunst, mark Ruffalo and Elijah Wood.

Kate Winslet received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress but lost to Hilary Swank for Million Dollar Baby. Also receiving Golden Globe, BAFTA and various other nominations for her role as Clementine Kruczynski,an unhinged, free spirited girl, somewhat of an extremist and one who keeps on changing her hair colour according to her mood. Her role got much acclaim and her performance as Clementine was listed in People's magazine 100 great performances at the 81st spot. USA Today said, "Winslet is just wonderful as a free spirit whose hair colour changes along with her moods. She hasn't had such a meaty role in a while, and she plays it just right." Well, it was honestly a surprise to see Kate in such a role, since she plays very serious, subtle roles, Clementine took me by surprise. Also, her American accent is perfect considering she is British but we never get a single moment of that matter. Thats one of the greatest things about Kate, her accent evolves with her role. 2004 is the best example when she played an American in this movie and a British in Finding Neverland the same year along with Jhonny Depp. And 2008, when she plays an American in Revolutionary Road and a German in The Reader.

Jim Carrey stars as Joel Barish, an emotionally withdrawn man who is still hung on his previous relationship. Jim Carrey gives one heck of a performance with his perfect comic timings but also a very handsome actor at the same time. Its not everyday to see Jim Carrey in such an extra-ordinary movie, with his acting as its best and with Kate Winslet.

The movie is entirely fictional, starting with Joel still missing is ex-girlfriend but comes to know she had a procedure which erases all of her memories of their relationship and now does not know whoJoel is and is totally clean-sweeped! (If only such procedures really existed, sigh*). Now totally heartbroken by the news, he visits Lacuna Corporations, the company that perform such procedures to know more about what they do. As explained, he decides to get the procedure done, in order to forget Clementine and their relationship.

Now as the process starts, Joel in his minds visits all those memories as they are being removed but during the process realizes he doesnt want it anymore, he wants it to stop which is impossible. As hopeless he gets, Clementine gets the idea of taking Joel and herself to Joel's such memories that are not concerned with their relationship, like his childhood, etc. But the Lacuna team somehow get the hold of them. Joel is still trying to save it all and Clementine with her but only in the memories, happening right then but in his brain.

So what will happen? Will Joel and Clementine hide from the team in Joel's memories only or will they be able to remember it all or just what the heck will happen!!?

It is one of the best movies of all time and by the end of the decade, the film made it to the lists of 'Best of The Decade'. As far as I can recall, it was on from spot 6, 9 to 13 on the "best" lists of various channels and magazines and critics. On its release, the movie met with extreme positive reviews with approvals as of 85+%. Also regarded as one of the best romantic movies of the 2000's. The script of Charlie Kaufman was equally appreciated, along with an Oscar nomination for the movie.

Well the movie is just simply great, has you on the edge till the very last scene. A love story that was so extra-ordinary, a story that keeps you going on. Watch it and you'll know what I am talking about. Just a great movie, for girls- AND GUYS!!

-Highly recommanded, a must watch!

My ratings: 9/10.

'The Perfect Host' Trailer HD

Cowboys & Aliens

Cowboys & Aliens, directed by Iron Man's Jon Favreau and loosely based on the Platinum Studios graphic novel of the same name, is a sci-fi/western mashup set in the Arizona Territory, 1873. The film follows Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig), an amnesiac gunslinger who wakes up in the middle of nowhere with a futuristic gauntlet on his arm and no idea of how it got there.

Jake arrives in the town of Absolution where he comes to the aid of meek saloon keeper Doc (Sam Rockwell) who is being harassed by young thug Percy Dolarhyde (a scene-stealing Paul Dano) and his cronies (including Adam Beach). Jake is later approached by the beautiful, enigmatic Ella (Olivia Wilde) who knows much more about Jake's troubles than she possibly could. But before Jake can get any answers, Sheriff Taggart (Keith Carradine) and his deputies come to arrest him. It turns out Jake is quite the outlaw who, although he has no memory of it, allegedly stole from the all-powerful local rancher (and Percy's badass dad) Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde

Before the Colonel can take Jake away to mete out punishment, distant lights signal the sudden and violent arrival of – you guessed it -- alien invaders. The brutal attack on Absolution plays out like an Old West Pearl Harbor. The alien ships destroy the town and abduct some of its inhabitants before Jake downs one of the spacecraft with his strange gauntlet. This otherworldly threat forces Jake and Dolarhyde to ally for the greater good, and – along with Ella, Doc, preacher Meachum (Clancy Brown) and Taggart's grandson, Emmett (Noah Ringer) – they ride out to rescue the townsfolk. Along the way, they also join forces with Apaches (led by Raoul Trujillo) who have encountered the aliens.

What's immediately apparent about Cowboys & Aliens is its tone. This isn't an ironic popcorn flick winking and nodding at its genre trappings. No, Cowboys & Aliens is a straightforward western, with all the elements that you'd expect to see in a classic oater --that is, until something literally out of this world happens. It's a largely dramatic western that just so happens to have sci-fi elements in it rather than a sci-fi film with cowboys. It's an important distinction and one that separates Cowboys & Aliens from goofy, anachronistic genre-benders like Wild Wild West and Jonah Hex
Steven Spielberg, Cowboys & Aliens could have just as easily starred John Wayne and Steve McQueen back in the day. Speaking of Spielberg, he served as an exec producer on this and his Close Encounters of the Third Kind has frequently been cited by Favreau as a tonal and visual inspiration for Cowboys & Aliens.
