Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

-What if you could wipe out a part of your memory that you dont want or of a bad relationship or people you dont want in your life anymore?

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is a 2004 romantic fanatsy movie about an estranged couple who have eachother erased from their memories. Directed by Michel Gondry, scripted by Charlie Kaufman. Starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kristen Dunst, mark Ruffalo and Elijah Wood.

Kate Winslet received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress but lost to Hilary Swank for Million Dollar Baby. Also receiving Golden Globe, BAFTA and various other nominations for her role as Clementine Kruczynski,an unhinged, free spirited girl, somewhat of an extremist and one who keeps on changing her hair colour according to her mood. Her role got much acclaim and her performance as Clementine was listed in People's magazine 100 great performances at the 81st spot. USA Today said, "Winslet is just wonderful as a free spirit whose hair colour changes along with her moods. She hasn't had such a meaty role in a while, and she plays it just right." Well, it was honestly a surprise to see Kate in such a role, since she plays very serious, subtle roles, Clementine took me by surprise. Also, her American accent is perfect considering she is British but we never get a single moment of that matter. Thats one of the greatest things about Kate, her accent evolves with her role. 2004 is the best example when she played an American in this movie and a British in Finding Neverland the same year along with Jhonny Depp. And 2008, when she plays an American in Revolutionary Road and a German in The Reader.

Jim Carrey stars as Joel Barish, an emotionally withdrawn man who is still hung on his previous relationship. Jim Carrey gives one heck of a performance with his perfect comic timings but also a very handsome actor at the same time. Its not everyday to see Jim Carrey in such an extra-ordinary movie, with his acting as its best and with Kate Winslet.

The movie is entirely fictional, starting with Joel still missing is ex-girlfriend but comes to know she had a procedure which erases all of her memories of their relationship and now does not know whoJoel is and is totally clean-sweeped! (If only such procedures really existed, sigh*). Now totally heartbroken by the news, he visits Lacuna Corporations, the company that perform such procedures to know more about what they do. As explained, he decides to get the procedure done, in order to forget Clementine and their relationship.

Now as the process starts, Joel in his minds visits all those memories as they are being removed but during the process realizes he doesnt want it anymore, he wants it to stop which is impossible. As hopeless he gets, Clementine gets the idea of taking Joel and herself to Joel's such memories that are not concerned with their relationship, like his childhood, etc. But the Lacuna team somehow get the hold of them. Joel is still trying to save it all and Clementine with her but only in the memories, happening right then but in his brain.

So what will happen? Will Joel and Clementine hide from the team in Joel's memories only or will they be able to remember it all or just what the heck will happen!!?

It is one of the best movies of all time and by the end of the decade, the film made it to the lists of 'Best of The Decade'. As far as I can recall, it was on from spot 6, 9 to 13 on the "best" lists of various channels and magazines and critics. On its release, the movie met with extreme positive reviews with approvals as of 85+%. Also regarded as one of the best romantic movies of the 2000's. The script of Charlie Kaufman was equally appreciated, along with an Oscar nomination for the movie.

Well the movie is just simply great, has you on the edge till the very last scene. A love story that was so extra-ordinary, a story that keeps you going on. Watch it and you'll know what I am talking about. Just a great movie, for girls- AND GUYS!!

-Highly recommanded, a must watch!

My ratings: 9/10.
