HAWAII FIVE-O

Hawaii Five-o is a modern reworking of the classic tv show of the same name which ran for 12 seasons, from 1968 to 1980.The new show is not a complete remake of the original show. It has been updated and upgraded to appeal to a new generation of viewers. The old show was more of a mystery/crime show and had a sombre feel to it.Yes, there was action in it but those sequences were few and far between. The new show on the other hand focuses more on the action aspect and gives you an exhilarating adrenaline rush throughout the episode. Infact, the show brilliantly combines elements of action, mystery, suspense, drama and comedy into one neat package.

The show follows the cases handled by a special task force created by the Governor of Hawaii. The task force also assists the Honolulo Police in its cases. The task force is only answerable to the Governor of Hawaii, for its actions and reports only to her. The team is headed by Steve McGarrett (Alex o'Loughlin of Moonlight),an ex-navy seal who returns to Hawaii to find his father's killers. His father had been a friend of the present Governor Pat Jameson (Jean Smart). McGarrett picks Honolulu Police Detective Danny Williams(Scott Caan) as his partner.Danny is the officer investigating McGarrett's father's murder in the pilot episode but is then taken off the case once the task force is formed.Danny hates Hawaii but he gets himself transferred from Newark Police Department because his ex-wife Rachel moves to Hawaii with their 8 year old daughter Grace, whom Danny loves more than anyone else in his life .McGarret then selects Chin Ho Kelly(Daniel Dae Kim). Chin Ho was once the protege of McGarret's father(his father was a cop) but he left the force after being falsely accused of corruption. The final member of the team is Kono Kalakaua (Grace Parks). She is a recent graduate from the Honolulu Police Department Academy and also Chin Ho Kelly's younger cousin.Kono looks upto Chin Ho as his elder brother and the only reason she joins the police is because of Chin Ho's heroics. She is the only one in their family who believes that Chin Ho was falselt implicated.

The task force covers different sorts of cases, dealing from terrorists and kidnappers to hackers and robbers. Each episode follows a certain case with McGarrett and his team trying to solve the case quickly.McGarrett's search for his father's killers runs as a parrallel story throughout the series.Later, in the show more secrets are revealed regarding McGarrett's mother's death, but i don't want spoil the fun for whoever read's this review.I would suggest that you watch the show to find out all the answers.

I love the show because it's so different from the other shows being shown on tv these days. There are plenty of shows on air but very few can be called quality shows. This is high quality stuff. The stories are terrific and the chemistry between the actors is unbelievable. But the best thing about this show is the mindblowing chemistry between the two main leads, Alex o'Loughlin and Scott Cann.It makes for great fun.The show is a fast paced action ride and would definitely appeal to action aficionados.

An interesting piece of information about the show is that the character of Kono, played by Grace Parks was actually played by a male actor in the original.Another interesting fact is that although Grace Parks is shown as the youngest member of the team, in reality she is older than both Alex o'Loughlin and Scott Caan, both of whom were born in 1976.Parks was born in 1974 and Daniel Dae Kim in 1968. Oh yes....the show does feature the famous line 'BOOK EM' DANO'.

I would rate the show a 9.5 out of 10.I know the rating is very high but believe me,it deserves this rating.
